Thoughts From My Own Corner of the World

Gadhafi fun, miscontrued religion, and A Changing Ahmadinejad?, September 23, 2009

OK. I have decided that today is just a wierd day for things happening in the world. First off I wake up to find out that Gadhafi has decided to spread his non-sensical rants outside the border of Libya. Its one thing for me to read about his rants while he is sitting back in the desert trying to act all powerful and mighty, but its another thing to wake up to that ego of his addressing the UN. But alas, it was no dream, but reality. In case any of you dont know who he is, etc…let me fill you in! First off hes the leader of Libya, had been since 1969…let me make this clear, hes never been appointed as president or leader, but became leader by default after a coup inLibya in which he tried to become the next Che. Yes, the man is now known in Libya as the “brotherly leader” of that country. Im use to his rants, Ive been following him and his policies for years, especially during the negotiations with Italy, in which he sought and won compensation of Italys military occupation of Libya for decades (ie colonialism). I gotta commend him for that move, it was smart! But when the AU appointed him as the new leader of the organization, I immediately thought that they were nuts! hes not exactly known for his compliance, cooperation, or assistance…heck Libya was under economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation for most of his reign…oh yeah…and hes a bomber! In fact one of my favorite quotes of his is “I am an international leader, the dean of the Arab rulers, the king of kings of Africa and the imam (leader) of Muslims, and my international status does not allow me to descend to a lower level.” And this says it all! Today I awoke to find that he had spoken at the UN. While he had points about the UNs inability and unreliance to intervene in much of the worlds conflicts ( I agree with him there…which just is wierd to me! Maybe I should seek counseling!) his rants on the Security Councils power (which Libya is a member of) were hilarious, his rants on Israel…not surprising, his conspiracies on JFK had me wondering where the hell his speech would wonder off to next…and oh yes lets not forget the moment when he compared the Taliban to the Vatican, that was priceless! I want to know the Popes response to that one! Oh well, all i can do is smile and nod, because at the center of it all is an eccentric old man who is in desperate need of a reality check.

And well, as if Gadhafi wasnt enough for my todays wierdness and stupidity…I caught up on the news from Florida about the Mom and 5 kids who were killed. Her husband has now admitted to killing them and has asked the state to execute him immediately. Apparently he wanted to take his own life, but did not have the courage to go through with it, “because if you kill yourself, you’re not going to heaven.” Um…I may not have read the bible in years…but I seem to remember a certain commandment about though shall not kill. Wouldnt that mean you wont be going to heaven too?! Is he Catholic? Because if he was I coud understand the anti-suicide stance hes taking, but if not I think his religious arguement is a little off-kilter. Oh well, thats what crazy, economy, 5 kids, and religion will do to you I guess!

Am I the only one watching Ahmadinejad’s statements of late and wondering if the Ayatollah is beginning to tell him to become friendlier with the US. For all of his anti-west, anti-US rants in the past, this week has been really quiet from the Iranian president! While there was a rant about the new missile defense system in Europe as being anti-Iranian, hes been calmer. While he may not have applauded Obama’s speech at the UN today, his reports that he is asking for leniancy for the US hikers caught in Iran, and also his invitation to open talks with the US seem strangely new. How much of this is due to the appearance that Israel has appeared to take the military issue off the table with Iran, How much of this is caused by internal domestic unrest surrounding the election in Iran and the pressure being exported asking that the world shun Ahmadinejad, or something else…I dont know, but its got my interest peaked! Now to see how the world reacts.  Will there be talks? While he’s open to talks, it cant be on the nucleur issue, which is what the US wants to talk about….time to broaden the pie people!  or will the world shun him? Or will everythin remain the same…ahh….its Iran, who knows!

Murder for Hire, a little Body Paint, and the Pigeon vs Hummer Debate July 1, 2009

Well i have decided that pigeons are some of the stupidest birds alive. I sat on Bethel St waiting on the bus, watching this one pigeon trying to cross the raod during rush hour traffic. Instead of flying over the cars, it kept walking in front of oncoming cars, and then running out of the way. No it wasnt injured, in fact it eventually made its way 1/2 way across the street and discovered it couldnt run back to safety from an oncoming Hummer and finally flew to the sidewalk. The only problem? It flew back the way it came and then started the entire process over again. Either it is a daredevil trying to conquer one road at a time, or its brain has fallen out! Thats not the end of my pigeon stories for the day, but the other one is not as funny.

Since this day was full of oddities, I decided it was time to update everyone on the weird news from around the world…starting with news from Madrid. Spanish police arrested a man today who they suspect of hiring a contract killer to kill his boss to avoid being laid off.  Well, Im not thinking that this man thought the entire thing through. Now he no longer has a job and is facing jail time, rather then just being laid off.  yes the economy is hard right now, but seriously? Killing to maintain a lifestyle? Dang, who thought sociopathism was linked to Wall Street? (Oh and the killing actually occurred, it wasnt a failed hiring!)

Hmm…so if I asked you what Johnny Depp, Garfield, Paris Hilton, and roast pork have in common, what would you say? Go ahead, guess! according to China, they are all bad for your moral health. So, with the new internet filtering system coming online, the Chinese have effectively filtered the oddest array of things/people imaginable. (While arguably Hilton is bad for health, who couldnt stand a little Captain Jack?!)

Like many frequent flyers I tune out the flight attendents and videos during the takeoff check list. I figure if I cant figure out where the exits are or how to buckle a seat belt then maybe I shouldnt be flying…alone. Wel, Air New Zealand has come up with a new technique to keep passengers attention on them during this time..they are introducing domestic crew that are dressed only in body paint. Well, that should make for an interesting conversation with your 5 year old!

Golden vending machines, the DUI barstool, and some North Korean charm June 18, 2009

Well the tradewinds have arrived and along with those blessed heat relieving winds came the rain…which I will gladly take right now because it too is giving my sweat glands a break from the 90 degree weather! Its been a relaxing past day or two. Ive been surfing the web…but not only for leisure…ive been pumping away at a paper due Sunday on NGO websites…and ive discovered that its kinda hard to analye websites becuase they always put theire best foot forward and hide their flaws. Oh well…its a good thing that im good at digging through good to find the bad!

In case you missed it, the military out here in HI has been put on alert due to North Korea. With a shipping vessel leaving North Korean ports carrying unknown things and them test firing a missile aiming it at HI…mortality has risen on my radar. At first when I heard the news I thought…ahh just another Kim Jong Il stunt…then I remembered that I live in HI now..not only that but I live on Oahu with all those military bases…somehow I dont think the missile is aimed at all the cows on Molokai! Oh well…Im not really afraid of death…if it happens it happens…and if it happens to be by nuke then so be it! At least its not death by fish!

In more news about crazy people…a man in Delaware decided it was going to be a good idea to set off fireworks in a local Arbys bathroom…and no one knows why because the man evaded the police…but if his goal was to sink a toilet then he succeeded!

A few months back I blogged about the DUI bar stool event in Ohio…well the man was contemplating selling the stool after he got alot of interest in it…until the Licking County Child Support Agency got wind of it and told him that if he sold it the money would have to go to the $37000 back owed child support he owes…so instead he offfered them the barstool and told them to sell it themselves.

Hmmm…it looks like someone forgot that the economy was bad.  Some German company decided to create a vending machine that will despense gold in ornamental boxes for $42. However, the creator argues that he came up with the idea of gold dispensers just before Lehman Brothers collapsed in September and was further convinced by a heightened interest in the precious metal as a hedge against inflation as the financial crisis rippled around the globe.  Yes…let me pump $42 of my hard earned money (ok..well my financial aid money anyways) into a vending machine so I can get a box of gold that cn sit on a shelf. Yes..it may be gold and worth more then the cash in my wallet…but that cash can buy me food..so ill keep my cash…its called survival.

High Rider, Just say no, and some IHOP madness June 16, 2009

Well its been awhile since Ive blogged on Odd news from around the world…so I will do just that tonight!

Did you know that Iowa has a joyride known as the Great Eastern Iowa Tractorcade…it obviously involves riding tractors on a 50 mile trek across Iowa…Thats one slow ride but I cant help but wonder if those John Deeres are decked out with coolers and all the accessories….just dont be drinking while driving or you will get a DUI!

Well there are a couple of things to learn from the next story…one, peer pressure can lead to stupid things…and two, look where you are going! A group of women decided to do a dine and dash in Detroit…so at the local IHOP they were chased out of the restaurant by the cashier and thats when the chaos ensued. One of the women lost control of the Mercury Cougar as the group drove away, crashing through the restaurant’s wall and smashing at least one large window. Um if you decide to dine and dash, then dont drive back into the restaurant!

There seems to be an identity crisis going on at a New York race track where a moose has decided that hes a horse and ready to race. Im all for Bullwinkle by a nose! But sadly, the moose didnt make it to the gate let alone the winners circle, because local wildlife officers came and tranqed him and informed him that there was no such thing as species-change operation and that Bullinkle had to go back to the wild…

Remember when you were told to just say no…well I think all owners of animals now need to teach this lesson to their pets. A black Lab that ran off from its owner in Seattle’s Seward Park found and ate some marijuana and got high. $1500 dollars later and some well deserved time of rest and relaxation and Jack the lab is fine….but during that time of rest and relaxation all I can imagine is a black lab lifting his leg to pee and falling over…oh Casey Binski how you will live forever in my mind!

Well Im off to relax myself!

Happy King Kamehemeha Day! June 11, 2009

Well day 2 back in Hawaii and the weather continues to be hot…although there was a little wind today. My days activities: woke up, cleaned the house…it was kinda gross, watched Family Guy with the roomies, read and wrote for class …soo much fun!, watched Josh continuous die while he tried to take down a cartel with Erik in the video game, and had a visit from a friend. Selina got to find out the hardway that I wasnt lying about my stairs! I know. I lead such an exciting life! Its so much fun living in Hawaii! Wait this is stuff I would be doing whereever I lived…Damn!

Also today ws King Kamehemeha Day..so Happy King Kamehemeha Day to everyone!  I love that local schools are closed for random Royal holidays here in HI. I think that every school kid should want to live in HI cause there are alot of days off due to randomness like this. Yes there can be an arguement made for living in the Midwest, and for snow days, etc…but here you can get off for weather too…its called flooding! Not nearly as fun as the snow though!

My bubble of reality was burst last night by landlord.  Here I was thinking that riding the rails was a mainland dream of mind, only to find out I can ride the rails here on Oahu too. Of course its all like 5 miles of track. But Hawaii has a railway!

I read an artilce today about the best cities for singles to live. Number 1 was Boulder CO, but Honolulu was in the top 25, and was noted as the best for gay/lesbian singles. Stella I think if there was a volcano here for you, then this would be your dream spot! j/k…

And a bit of randomness for today…apparently a teen diagnosed herself in science class. Yes, after all those doctors visits no one could find anything wrong with her. And one day in science class she was looking at her own intestinal tissue (how and why she had it im not sure) she discovered a granuloma and is now being treated for Crohns disease. Im sure her teacher felt all sorts of pride that her student was smarter then any doctor in the area. Actually thats frightening.

Delayed blogging, bonfires, and relaxation galore May 24, 2009

Well I have discovered that being back in Ohio has led me to neglecting my blog…which is sad…so Im going to try and rekindle it…

I have spent alot of time at bonfires and cookouts over the past few days. Although enjoyable, my body is beginning to hate me, as I ahve welts from misquitos all over the place..and they itch, which is never helpful.  But fire is good…and beer is good…and food is good…so I will keep venturing into that world of relaxation as long as I can!

In news around to world…North Korea tested their nuclear weapons…this so cant be a good thing!  Not only does it lead to national security issues but I cant imagine all that underground testing is all that good on the environment! I mean North Korea is essentially an agricultural society, so I know I wouldnt want to eat anything grown there…Its bad enough that I lived downhill from a nuclear supersite my entire life, and it had some measures of public protection in place, but I some how doubt Kim Jong Il has made sure his people are protected from nuclear fallout…

Well the craziness of Ohio people is evident all the more since I have moved away…and I mean crazy…take for example the Toledo man who when he didnt get a nightly phone call from his mom who was traveling, decided that his neighbor had kidnapped her and stormed into their house to kill them. He was eventually killed in a bloddy shootout with police, but I cant help but wonder if 1)he was high on meth 2)where the neighbors gun was (cause come on it is Ohio) and 3) why a grown man is still a mamas boy.

In other disturbing Parent/child news…a London man tried to hire a prostitute to have sex with his 14 year old son…he said it was a gift for his sone to loose his virginity. Um when did parents push for their kids to grow up so fast?! Seriously?! At 14 I was getting the NO sex talk, not the PAY for sex talk…hmm…come to think of it…I dont think there ever was a PAY for sex talk…I cant imagine my dad having that discussion with me!

In blog news…there has been over 3000 visits…yay!

Stolen Prisoner shirt, a chocolate car, and more Favre drama May 5, 2009

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

The last couple of days have been spent working on some end of the semester papers…so Ive been slacking on my blog…Its kinda hard to get motivated to write even more, even if it is for fun.  As of tonight I am done! I think…

Ahh the ingenuity! When you hear someone of going green..i bet you dont think of chocolate!  Scientists have created a new racecar that will go 145mph that is made of plant fiber, soybean foam, and runs on oil and chocolate…yes thats right chocolate.  The car is almost edible!

Ahh the yearly Favre speculation begins yet again. And here I thought I would actually get to avoid the talks this year, but nope…cause Favre got his release from the Jets and is going to talk to Minnesota about a possible comeback. Give me a break!  Yes Minnesota would be likely to take him, but any team that even considers it has to be insane at this point, cause at the end of next season, he will retire, change his mind, change teams, and decide to play again. Im actually glad the Packers stuck to their decision last year and shipped him off to the Jets. Thats not to say Im not a fan, but I happen to like my team more then 1 player…and if that 1 player isnt going to help, then do what you gotta do. The only thing that is even more frustrating to me right now is that the stock on my autographed Favre ball is not exactly rising here!  Make up your mind Favre! Oh and to the NFL source who thinks Favre is coming back to get revenge for not being released by the Packers….grow up! Are we in Junior High again? When someone in their 30s is deciding his/her future based on revenge scenarios then you know something is extremely wrong!

A 20 year olf California man was locked up after being charged with stealing a Prisoner t-shirt form the county jail. He was previously charged with felony possession and child abuse, and after being released from jail he was seen riding his bike wearing his Prisoner t-shirt and re-arrested and charged with recieving stolen property.  How is it recieving stolen property. He was issued it and simply stole it…he didnt recieve it after it was stolen!  I guess I need to brush up on my criminal law again! Its been awhile since Ive read the statutes…Oh well…In my eyes if he wanted to announce to the world that he was a Prisoner, then let him, cause I guarentee people would have avoided him!

Random google search of the day that led to my blog…”to find a theif by vodoo[sic]” …yes my voodoo ways are becoming mainstream apparently!

Canadian rednecks, naked frisbee, and the new way to prevent Drunk Driving May 2, 2009

Hmmm…todays last class of the semester shed some interesting light on my classmates and my professor. First, I think there will be bets or a ew drinking game created for next semesters Middle Eastern Diplomacy class..its the only way many will stay sane! Second, apparently all right wingers think that their ability to say whaterver pops in their head is a good thing, and actually are glad to identify that characteristic as a right wing phenomenon because apparently us liberal minded folk dont speak our minds (funny). Third, conversations on rednecks can be very interesting in Hawaii cause the term becomes international…like for example, did you know there are some real trailer park rednecks in Canada…I wonder if they are really draft dodgers from the US though. Lastly, I think my professor has a secret addiction to reality tv , and more specifically the Real Housewives of NYC…cause he seems to know a little too much about some lady who calls herself the Countess…and can actually then explain he family connections in historical terms which is scarier! But alas, US Diplomatic History is over…well except for that 25 page paper I have due in a couple of days.

Well I guess the PR campaign to stop calling the “swine flu” “swine flu” can officially end. The pork industry was up in arms over the name cause there had been no connection to the flu to pigs and thus the name was hurting sales….well pork industry, the name is back…a Canadian farmer who just returned from Mexico has pigs that have tested postive for the H1N1 virus, so your PR campaign needs to be reworked! Mabe the flu should be renamed human flu since it seems the pigs are getting it from the humans..somehow it just doesnt have the same ring…

Hmm..there is ultimate frisbee, but will naked frisbee ever make it mainstream? If the University of Oregan frisbee team has anythng to say about it then it might happen. Apparently during sectional play against Oregan State they shed their pants and underwear and proceeded to play pantless. Hmm…kids cover your eyes! Of course this didnt fly with the school and the team, whom were already in trouble for serving alcohol to minors and excessive noise at parties, was forced to end its season early. Of course that didnt stop them form complaining about the fact that they did nothing wrong. Hmm…public indecency isnt wrong?! If only there was a law stating that playing naked was ok! Oh wait, the Ultimate Frisbee association says that you have to wear clothes in their own laws? Ooops, guess the boys spent to much time playing naked to actually read the rulebook, oh well…at least they arent getting county soap!

Hmm…when did being the DD for someone involve wrecking cars? A Palm Beach County woman told police she crashed her car into her boyfriend’s truck to prevent him from driving drunk. The best part is that she did this with her 2 kids in the car and has now been cited for 2 counts of child abuse! Oh wow…I guess the days of taking keys and claling a cab are over.  Remember this next time Moe…there will be no more head tapping…I will just take the truck down to the river! J/k!

Vitamin C, Mexican Vacation, and goodbye Souter =( April 30, 2009

Well its been a few days since I last blogged. Its the end of the semester and I am almost done…2 more papers to go! I am working on one right now…well not right now, im procrastinating and decided to update my blog, but I will get back to my prospectus update as soon as I am done here! Class was relaxing tonight, and for once we got out early which was a nice plus! Unfortunately the bus was running late, so I only made it home about 30 min prior to my normal time, but hey, 30 minutes is an eternity in grad school!

In case you havent seen the news…Justive Souter is planning on retiring. Im personally amazed that Justice Stevens is till kicking it! I thought for sure he would be one of the first to retire after Obama was elected , but hey, to each his own.  But for all of you out there who are obsessed with the hot topic issues, a court nomination will bring out all the crazies on both sides of every issue, so it should make for some interesting blogging!

Well earlier today I read an article about how Airline seats to Mexico are easy to come by right now….wanna take that dream vacation to the Mexican Riviera, well this is the time to do it.  While some professionals seem to think that its the flu and the economy that are making an excess of seats available, Im goign to bet its because of Speidi being there…come on, who wants to have to watch those 2 do photo ops all day!

Going along the lines of the ridiculous and needlesss information that seems to be floating around out there… Sarah Jessica Parkers surrogate may or maynot be from Ohio….who cares! Or how about the Jellybean thief…a robber in PA broke into a home, but all he took were some jellybeans….seriously?! How much you wanna bet its a kid who did it! Or how about the coke smuggling Grandpa in Italy…you have to admit it was pretty genius to put the coke inside of his oranges, and then tell the cops he needed the oranges for vitamin C. Regardless, news seems to be full of random and stupid things these days…maybe its the gecko flu…

Duct Tape Judge, too much Sci-fi, and living the clean life April 21, 2009

Hmm..have scientists finally discovered the planet for us to all move to when our planet dies?! A recent discovery of another planet with vast oceans and similarities to Earth has been found in a completely different solar system than ours… but I think in order to reach it we may need a Stargate or some BSG ships that are capable of carrying us all there….so I guess I wont get my hopes up until Richard Dean Anderson comes and saves our planet from those evil Gu’ould (sp?).  Yes Im beginning to think that I have watched way to much Sci-fi…when i start thinking in terms of planetary space travel you all know we are in trouble!

Hmm…Mexican cartels have told their smugglers to dont drink, do drugs, and to live a goof clean family life….are they taking cues from Weeds now? Cause I seem to remember a scene where she was told exactly that! But you know they never listen!

Oh you gotta love the judicial system in this country.  A judge in Idaho lost his patience with a defendant and ordered that his mouth be taped shut with duct tape.  The best part is that the man is incompetent to stand trial due to impaired mental faculties. I wonder when the ACLU will jump on this one?!  Duct taping an insane mans mouth shut instead of removing him form the room is kinda a weird measure…I just know when I worked with the MR/DD population this would have been ground for firing, so I wonder how the judge will fair!

Um…now Im really concerned about the google searches that are leading to my blog…yesterday “gaible porn” led to my blog…whos googling for gaible porn?!?!  How many gaibles are there in the world anyways?!

Later!
