Freestyle Polka Dancing at Hofbrau

Well my blogging is being interrupted by a lack of wi-fi connection, so since Im actually connected, I thought Id catch up on updating everyone on life in Hawaii.  As I sit here typing it is raining in Nuuanu Valley and there is a rainbow forming right in front of my huge living room window…its always a good thing to wake up to, rainbows and a little rain.  Hopefully though the rain slows so I can go to class.  The weather is suppose to be in the 80s all week, but I still miss the snow =(  Somehow Ill survive.

Hmm..Im not sure what to make of the choice of Gadhafi as leader of the African Union. I know its a power move for him since hes been trying to get Libya some international recognition, but is kinda of an eccentric choice.  Just look at how he arrived at the AU session…with seven men in extravagant dress, one carrying a 4 ft gold staff, who Gadhafi claimed as the seven original kings of Africa.  On top of that, he stated that he would work to unite the continent into “the United States of Africa.” Now thats a tall order for anyone, let alone a dictator for Libya! We’ll see how this one pans out for the continent and the rest of the world soon enough I feel.

In stranger news, a thief in France drilled into a French bank over the weekend, but missed the safe and instead found himself in a bathroom where he was promptly arrested. Now that sucks….poor planning, poor execution, poor luck!  Lesson to be learned from this?  Hollywood movie plans to rob banks rarely work in real life!

Im sure everyone watched the Super Bowl last night.  I for one was more entertained at the fact that Obama gave a “shout out” to out troops and that he promised to give his email to the reporters son but not him then by the Super Bowl and the advertising.   However there were a few good ads….like the Doritos Crystal ball ad, the Pedigree commercials with the zoo animals, the Bridgestone Space jam…cause any ad that puts House of Pain in as the background song deserves to be recognized!  Yes, the remake of Joe green was cute and funny, but not the best.  And I think that Budweiser needs to bring back some frogs and lizards, or do something new…im over the Dalmatian and the Clydesdale’s. As for the Super Bowl itself, I can say im sad…i was rooting for AZ, but am happy to see that #11 Fitzgerald got 2 TDs!  All the commentary afterwards made me laugh, cause it definitely was not the best Super Bowl, nor did it beat last years!  Oh well, the NFL has to say something.  The most entertaining part of the evening was watching my roomie Josh(who’s form AZ).  In the beginning of the game he was all talk about how AZ wont win cause they are the Cardiac Cardinals, and then slowly he started to believe they might, and then they didnt, so he flipped our couch which was hysterical. Then he started talking about how Pitt shouldnt be so happy cause they only beat the worst team in the league.  LOL…excuses, excuses, excuses. (PS: when did cheetos go to the dark side?)

The shoe has become a symbol of hatred and protest.  Bush and the reporter may have started it, but it has transcended all boundries and is now making its mark in China where a protester threw a shoe at the Chinese Premier.  But this didnt occur in China, it happened at Cambridge University in the UK, which is probably a good thing for the Human Rights protestor because I have a feeling it would be an immediate execution in China!

Jessie and Joe hamming it up at Hofbrau

Well its Sunday, and that means more football!  Yay!  Go Philly…down with Vikings!  Ok…well last night was a blast.  Gotta love a Hofbrauhaus!  Its always interesting to be watching football and drinking beer, while listening to a German Polka Band! I did plenty of drinking and eating as well as plenty of table/bench dancing!  Im just glad I wasn’t chosen for the German celebration ritual of drinking beer from a baby bottle…first I woulda sucked at it…literally and figuratively, and secondly, it would have meant further embarrassing pictures of me! So instead of embarrassing pictures, I left with a clinking purse, walking right in front of the local cops with a purse full of HB glasses…including 2 liter steins. I love my purse, it was the best purchase I made in HI so far…it can fit a dead body if it had to I bet!  And everypne makes fun of it, but then turns to me when they need glasses smuggled…hahah…

But I did get fun video and pictures, hope you all enjoy!

Crazy creations, fun celebrations, and those Florida nudists November 3, 2008

Well somebody hasnt heard the news on the economy…because a hover chair inspired by Star Wars was created in London. Um…Im gonna go out on a limb here and guess that its expensive…

I am really hoping that tomorrow on Election day, the media shows the Japanese town Obama partying it up over our election, and Obama. I think its funny that there is even a town in Japan named Obama, let alone the fact that they are partying regardless of the outcome just because of a presidential candidate here in the US. Too fun!  I want to fly to Japan now and party with them…forget class and the election, the party sounds like fun!

My favorite pre-election news still has to be the Florida Nudists.  They are advocating for a clothing optional polling place.  Although there is no election law against its creation, election officials are against the idea. Although this would be great to see, even just once, im gonna go out on a limb and say that by allowing this to occur would mean that then everyone would be asking for a special polling place.  I wonder if this will go to court?  Heck, it would be funny if the Supreme Court opted to hear it if it ever went that far…Justice Thomas I may just read an opinion by you yet!

For almost everyone that knows me, I am in NO hurry to get married…if ever…but if i did, I so would consider doing what this couple did…tie the knot in a tattoo parlor! Forget the ring, how about some ink?! Im gonna bet that if my Mom reads this blog entry I will be getting a call telling me NO. Now that will be a funny conversation!

And for those of you who want to know the first results of the election…in Dixville NH, Obama has won by a count of 15 to 6.  Now enjoy the video from Halloween…

Angry wishes, the odds of being Joe the Plumber, and the crazy trick or treat lady November 2, 2008

Kyle and his love of Journey

Well…voting apparently has reached a whole new level, with Stella waiting in line for 4 hours to vote today…dang! Lets just hope the early turnout pays off! My person favorite update on the election outcome was the fact that someone actually sat down to determine the odds of 1 vote deciding the election…they would be 1 in 60 million.  Now imagine if that was you?!  I wouldnt want that to happen to me…half the country would hate me!  It would be worse than being Joe the Plumber…

A lady in Michigan has taken this election a little to far…On the night of trick or treat in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, she denied candy to anyone who supported Obama, or their kids.  If they didnt support McCain, then no treats for you…How sad is that?!  Imagine a little kid just out to have fun, and told that they arent good enough to get candy because their mom or dad likes some candidate.  Kids dont understand that crap…how stupid is this lady? Although to be fair…apparently the lady posted a sign stating her position, so any Obama supporting parents who put their kids up to getting candy from her deserve the crying they recieved when candy wasnt received!

In case you haven’t heard the horrible news, My Packers released my player, KGB, and I am mad!!!!  I thought my friends were joking when I recieved the text yesterday, until I logged online…The Packers were actually aired on TV today, and I had a dilemna as to watch it or boycot the game…the love of football won out and I watched it, but I wasnt happy, and can honestly say although I wanted them to win (which they didnt), a small part was rooting for them to lose…yes I know Im crazy, because its not like my internal wishes actually impacted the game…or did they?!?!  Hmmmmm……

Fun google search’s for the day that led to my blog…”Waikiki Teletubbies” “Halloween Waikiki Giraffe” “Blog Halloween”…too fun!  I guess the teletubbies made other laugh as much as me, but I dont rememebr a giraffe, oh well!  Enjoy the video…

Walking around Waikiki on Halloween

Well its almost 4am and I just got home…and I drank a bottle of Jager by myself (it was a smaller bottle)…and Im definitely feeling the winding down as the alcohol leaves my system…Erik and the gang are probably still at Level 4 partying it up in Waikiki, but I was afraid that if I stayed out much longer I would totally never make it home!

Tonight was fun…Halloween in Waikiki is nuts!  Think wall to wall people, drinking, in costumes, with a little bit of Mardi Gras thrown in…Chaos….and I love it!  The best costumes I saw tonight…Teletubbies, Mario Bros, some guy who was completely naked except a few strings(his ass was totally showing), and the Michael Jackson group…where some guy dressed up as Michael and the rest of his friends were the zombies from the Thriller video…They performed and all…I thought I got them on video, but apparently my drunkenness didnt actually record the whole thing..I got like 2 seconds of footage of it…but it was awesome!

We started at Eriks and then went to Level 4, where I left the group, and wondered Waikiki for a little but before heading home…I love the craziness!  Everyone should come to Hawaii next Halloween…they will have a guaranteed good time…

Well Im off…

John Stewart link on Sarah Palin Gender Card

Colbert Report Link : Financial Advice from Gorlock

Oh no…trouble in paradise for McCain/Palin?  Apparently there is a disagreement about global warming, and what causes it between the two. And the person most in denial? Palin.  Now I think this is wierd.  She is of course from Alaska of all places and sees the effects global warming is having on the world perhaps better than anyone (except those living in the south…sorry hurricane victims).  Yet, she still denied global warming.  Um ok.  All I can say is that I can’t wait to watch Colbert Report and John Stewart to see their responses!  In case you haven’t seen the clip about the Gender Card issue with Hillary/Palin at the center of the debate, you should check it out.  Follow the link above to watch it, or not.  Your preference!

All I have been reading is primitive warfare and the correlation between civilied societies.  All my classes are beginning to overlap a little, which is nice.  Now if I can only keep up with the work load!  Im having mixed reactions to going back to Ohio next week.  Im excited to see everyone, but I have soooo much to do!  Ahhh…stress kicking in…need to breath…need a break…must watch news…..ahhh stresss again….ahhh no more IRA, 401k, ….economics=panic!  Ok Im done now.  Well hopefully some relaxation will come soon! Until then I am off to write a paper, and another, and another…and yet more!

More Boogy Board Surfing

Not much new happening today.  Im glad that at least some of you shared my pain over the loss of my dreadlocked cornerback!  And yes, I will be praying to some odd God that the Browns pull off a win in the Battle of Ohio for you all! (Well for Mandy and Leenee anyways).  So far my favorite responses to yesterdays blog has to be in response to my study abroad plans, and the abundent amounts of “where?” replies I recieved!  Too funny!

I spent most of the day trying to finish War before Civilization, and am about 40 pages away from finishing.  With any luck I will finish it tonight…and then its paper time!  Class today went as expected;  I always learn something new.  Todays random piece of information is: Hitler was Time Magazines Man of the Year in 1936.  Now that has me thinking….who else in recent history has been Times Man of the Year who might end up comparible to Hitler in 50 years time (as judged by History)?  I guess I will have to do some research and come up with a list of possibilites.  No I am not suggesting that there were any genocidal lunitics in recent Man of the Year Covers, but Im sure there will be some questionable people…Was Bush Man of the Year ever?  Hum…..The other half of this new tidbit is that now Im questioning Time Magazines journalistic integrity…I mean come on…I know Hitler helped turn around the Germany economy after WWI (yes Erik I am talking economics…you should be proud!) and helped “save” his people from terrible times, which may have been the motivation behind the Man of the Year nomination, but even then there was build up of troops and his public addresses that should have been warnings about his guy.  Oh well, I guess propaganda really works sometimes!  Ok enough on Hitler…

Apparently reporters have been “flocking” to HPU in search of information.  Turns out Palin attended HPU for a semester.  So everyone wants to know about her.  The funny thing is that according to my professor, no one remembers her even attending the school.  Its not that faculty have left, but more apt that she was a “forgettable” student.  Not exactly sure thats a comforting notion to me…not that the idea of Palin is comfoting anyways!  What can I say, I may have feministic views, but im more of a socialist, and she scares me!

My day has improved from yesterdays “hangover”. I even got to dance in the rain today…of course I looked like a drowned rat by the time I got home, but if you can’t appreciate a little rain every once in a while, then what can you do?!?

Enjoy the video!

Chocolate, buckeyes, and that damn global warming September 13, 2008

Stupid Sign of the Day

Stupid Sign of the Day

 More Pier Diving

Chocolate anyone?  How about some special German chocolate?  I so want to go to Berlin right now and see the little chocolate shop that police shut down for selling hallucinogenic chocolates.  It sounds like something you would be more apt to find in Amsterdam!  Well I guess thats one way to assist with the munchies…or will it just cause more?  Any thoughts?

So apparently global warmings next victim will be the Buckeyes…thats right all you OSU fans…they are about to die.  Not really, but apparently the real buckeyes (not the football team or the really yummy candy ones) are being threatened by global warming.  What will we call our football teams, our candy, our state if there are no more buckeyes!? As if the polar bears and he ice caps weren’t enough…stupid green house gases and global warming!  And who would be the welcome recipients of buckeye trees if Ohio lost them?  Well apparently it would be Michigan…maybe we’ll get their wolverines!

So todays blog is just full of random stupid thoughts…Mainly since my day is consisting of reading some really dry International politics articles, and I’m sure a summary of them would make you all fall asleep like it is me…Guess I finally found a cure for my Insomnia!  Oh yeah, and a new semi-regular segment to the blog will be the supid signs I keep seeing around the world…Enjoy!

Boogy Board Surfing

As I walked home from the bus stop at 10:15 pm, I started to think about what to write for tonights post…needless to say, I’m having a tough time filling the void.  So as I prepared dinner, I thought…well I could talk about how soup has become a staple of my diet here…its easy and quick to fix…but thought that would be more of a sociological and anthropological examination and perspective into an HPU grad students sad and pathetic life (and diet!).

So instead I will tell you that class was boring…yet reflective tonight.  I had philosophy.  I was really hoping to go into class and get to argue ethics with some Military guys, but instead sat back and realized how black and white some of these people really see the world.  Where are the shades of gray people?!?  I love the gray!  And while I sat there listening to my professor talk about the multitude of ethical theory, I finally got my chance to raise myself out of the boredom.  All thanks to John Rawls and Kant!  Turns out that practically no one in class has takena philosophy course…so I got to talk about Kant’s categorical imperative and how moral law is self imposed.  Then to top it off I got to throw in a little anarchy and power theory via John Rawls.  Everyone in the class has now decided to sit by me…especially one guy, and engineer, who turned to me during the section on hedonism and was like”help!”.  (Hedonism=pleasure principle).  Im in for a long haul with this class, because I am no longer abl e to fly under the radar  with my professor.  Especially since on break we started discussing John Rawls theories…and needless to say…most grad students probably  haven’t read him, even if they philosophy majors.  I shocked my professor there (Thank you Jipson and Anarchy!).  Heck I shocked myself that I still remembered the jist of Rawls after several years!

Tomorrow is friday…and with any luck…bar hopping with classmates night!  We’ll see.  I really need a break, so either way I will be doing something!  Maybe I’ll go hang with Ali at his place and drink coffee from Turkey!

Several of you will find this funny.  My roommate Charlie left for Houston for 2 weeks….and who does he put in charge of his fish?  Me!  What type of fish does he have you ask?  How about a crazy, slightly suicidal Oscar like my former fish (that eventually succeeded in killing itself).  How did I get stuck with this task?  Oh well…I will deal!  As long as I don’t have to touch it!

Enjoy the video for tonight!

Waikiki Coastline

Pier Diving

My normal wednesday routine continues…and this time I was not successful in regenerating my red lobster skin.  The clouds were out in full force, and alas my attempt to “tan” will have to wait for another day!  The Waikiki pier was busy as ever with the tourists and the locals alike.  A few of the locals who I’ve seen before were there, but not Alec and his brood.  Oh well, another day, another time.  I was able to catch some of the pier diving and the boogy boarding and surfing on video, and they will be dispersed over the next xeveral posts, so I hope everyone enjoys them.  Today we have a quick video tour of the Waikiki coastline as well as a pier diver.

Well apparently 5 roommates weren’t enough…Chris has officially moved in (Molly’s boyfriend).  I loved how my landlord posted a note on the fridge asking if there were any objections, and someone responded “You mean it isn’t official already?”  He’s here all the time, so it feels like there are 6 other people licing here, it’s just official now!

So Kim and I got into a discussion on tattoos.  I really want a new one…and have wanted one for some time, but have been delaying due to the cost.  She recommended I wait til I get back to the mainland because it’s cheaper, but I really want one of my planned 5 now!  So what does everyone think?  Any suggestions on what to get done first?  Maybe, I’ll hold off on the tattoos and get my nose pierced instead!  I’ve been wanting that one for awhile too.  Oh yeah and the back of my neck…but there is only one place I trust to do that (Tattoo Tech here I come!)  I know my parents will be so excited to read about this piece of news!  So as a warning…expect a piercing of some sort when you see me in a month!

Enjoy the videos!
