Happy King Kamehemeha Day! June 11, 2009

Well day 2 back in Hawaii and the weather continues to be hot…although there was a little wind today. My days activities: woke up, cleaned the house…it was kinda gross, watched Family Guy with the roomies, read and wrote for class …soo much fun!, watched Josh continuous die while he tried to take down a cartel with Erik in the video game, and had a visit from a friend. Selina got to find out the hardway that I wasnt lying about my stairs! I know. I lead such an exciting life! Its so much fun living in Hawaii! Wait this is stuff I would be doing whereever I lived…Damn!

Also today ws King Kamehemeha Day..so Happy King Kamehemeha Day to everyone!  I love that local schools are closed for random Royal holidays here in HI. I think that every school kid should want to live in HI cause there are alot of days off due to randomness like this. Yes there can be an arguement made for living in the Midwest, and for snow days, etc…but here you can get off for weather too…its called flooding! Not nearly as fun as the snow though!

My bubble of reality was burst last night by landlord.  Here I was thinking that riding the rails was a mainland dream of mind, only to find out I can ride the rails here on Oahu too. Of course its all like 5 miles of track. But Hawaii has a railway!

I read an artilce today about the best cities for singles to live. Number 1 was Boulder CO, but Honolulu was in the top 25, and was noted as the best for gay/lesbian singles. Stella I think if there was a volcano here for you, then this would be your dream spot! j/k…

And a bit of randomness for today…apparently a teen diagnosed herself in science class. Yes, after all those doctors visits no one could find anything wrong with her. And one day in science class she was looking at her own intestinal tissue (how and why she had it im not sure) she discovered a granuloma and is now being treated for Crohns disease. Im sure her teacher felt all sorts of pride that her student was smarter then any doctor in the area. Actually thats frightening.

Todays travels, let there be heat, and where is my AC? June 10, 2009

Well I have discovered that blogging while on vacation in Ohio is non existent as is evident by 1 blog post over the past month. Bad me! Oh well. I am back in Hawaii and it is frickin’ hot! No tradewinds! And that is bad especially since there is no AC either! Stupid Hawaii weather….wait…thats kinda wierd, im usually saying that about Ohio…hmmm.

Well the roomies are happy to have me back. They even bought me beer! Ill take it! And our Tv is working again which makes me happy too! I am exhausted though. I have spent the last 20 hours traveling on planes and lounging about airports…and i only had 3 hours of sleep the previous night. Oh well…im use to being sleep deprived! All in all my travels this trip were relatively uneventful…aka no problems! My flight to HI this time was delayed but I didnt care since it was my final destination! And of course I ran into people I know at the airport…this time it was Russ as he was flying in from the mainland too.

All in all its good to be back. Im dreading the walk to the bus stop tomorrow cause its going to be a bitch after not walking miles for a month! Oh well, ill survive, lets just hope theres wind tomorrow though!

Well im off to finish laundry and head to bed…at least thats the plan…

My new housemate, anti-bird rant, and what to do with a head March 10, 2009

Well oddities are a common thing in my life, I embrace randomness, but I think its reached a new level. We have a ghost living in our house…Josh thinks its an old surfer dude who has a scraggly beard, but for me its a bunch of shaddows making up no form. Random things happen, random noises are heard, and we wake up at odd hours of the morning for no reason (well maybe for me its insomnia)…but Josh is set on the ghost theory.  We are currently looking for names for our new housemate. Any ideas let me know!

The winds have been ahowlin’ today. No rain, but lots of noisy wind to keep me from sleeping this morning. Add the presence of the chickens, and some random bird who I think is looking for a mate. thease are just a few things on the list of things that I am finding annoying today.  I am really not a fan of birds…I dont have a fear, but am just generally annoyed by them, but this isnt a new thing either, Im just noticing it more since in Hawaii the walls and windows are paper thin, and definately dont block out noise.

Um, so a friend has tried Pilsburys new cinnamon rolls with chocolate icing. I am sceptical because for me, although a normal food adventure junky, chocolate icing on cinnamon rolls is a violation of all things sacred about the ooey gooey goodness.  it should have normal icing, not chocolate!  And I love chocolate, but even I dont think my stomach could stomach it!

Well ive always wondered what  happens when the Mexican Cartels beheaded someone.  I mean, where does the head go?  What do you do with a head?  I guess you could always bury it under a rose bush, but that seems cliche. You could always give it to Colbert to use as Abe Lincolns ghost, but he already has one. Hmm..its a predicament….oh wait, you can put them in ice chests, cause God knows thats the most creative place to put a head!  But in all seriousness, thats exactly what they did. Instead of leaving the bodies, they took the bodies and left the heads with the victims eyes taped shut.  Well identification was made easy, but cause of death is going to be a bitch!

The loss of a Colt, a city I wouldnt live in, and women rule! February 23, 2009

Well the monotony of grad school has sunk in, but I am slowly dragging myself out of the lack of desire to do anything and am actually catching up on reading…which is a good thing!  Class went smooth today, and I am officially Mao’d out…any more reading on COIN (cointerinsurgency) theory this week and my head may explode, but some how I have to find a way to read about the Algerian War by monday.  My weekend was a little relaxing, but it was also full of reading and paper writing.  It could have been worse.  I spent some time hanging with the roomies, and I have included pics of them being goofballs…enjoy.

I have to love Obama for his naive simplistic views on things sometimes.  Apparently McCain approached Obama about the rising cost of some military expenditures, mainly the creation of a new wave of  Marine One helicopters from Lockhead Martin that will cost more than Air Force 1.  In response to the apparent need for a new helicopter Obama stated, ‘”the helicopter he has now seems adequate, adding that he never had a helicopter before and ‘maybe I’ve been deprived and I didn’t know it.’”   I would be the same way.  If I had one helicopter and never had one before I would be ecstatic…forget building me a new one!

Well women are once again superior to the males of this species!  When processing beauty, men use the right side of their brain, while us women use our entire brain! Apparently we  link beauty to all kinds of other aspects like sensory, linguistics, etc…while men see it as an object.  I have decided that women are just further along on the evolutionary process then men…it explains alot!

In football news…all you fantasy players out there…Marvin Harrison is no longer and Indy Colt…he has been listed as free agent after he refused to take a pay cut and no contract deals were struck.  Poor Jessie…her team is losing a great player!

After reading about some places in the world, I have  list, albeit small, of places I wouldnt like to live.  I have added the city of  Zhengzhou, China to the list.  Apparently public servants have been forbidden to wear bright colored clothes, and must match.  However, the real problem for me is that hairstyle must be simple and natural color.  I dont know if I could live somewhere I couldnt let my freak flag fly even a little!  I mean, I may decide I want my hair hot pink, purple, or black again….and I want that option to do it!

I know sometimes restaurants can give diners headaches, especially when there is lousy service or your bill is wrong, but taking it to the extent that a patron of a diner in Cyprus did may be extreme.  He apparently was angry at the bill and doused the place in Petrol, fired a shotgun, and threatened to t burn the place down (maybe not in that exact order). I think anger management may be in order for him otherwise his anger might kill him…literally.  A new study was done stating that anger can kill…cause  it leads to heart defects from stress.  So maybe burning a diner down over a bill isnt the best idea if it could potentially lead to a coronary heart attack!

Well Im off to watch some tv, and slowly fry my brain from watching Family Guy…

A bill for common sense, a day of gun fire, and more Hugo February 15, 2009

Well its nice and cool out today…well windy anyways.  The mountains normally keep the wind off of Nuuanu but the breeze has foudn its way in between the mountains and has eben blowing all day.  Its not Ohio’s version of Ohio windstorm ‘09, but its definately cooled down the area.

Right now I am hearing semi-automatic machine gun firing coming form the living room as Erik and Josh kill things on the X-box, and it is sad to say that sounds of gun fire waking me up is no longer a strange sound.  Now that isnt a problem right now, seeing as I am in Honolulu and not a third world country run by militias, but if I ever venture into a scenario like that then having a built up tolerance of machine gun fire may not be a good thing.

In case you missed it Hugo won the right to abolish term limits to the presidency in Venezuala. Should be an iunteresting next couple of years….

Its always interesting living in Hawaii…take for example the legislative bills that are proposed at all levels of state and county government. Right now there are tow kinda strange bills before the county legislation…one is against moepeds, the other is against leaf blowers.  The moeped one I can understand, no more riding on sidewalks people….but the leaf blower one is kinda weird. Apparently leaf blowers are being banned for use during certain hours due to noise pollution.  What makes the bill stranger is that there is an actual stipulation of time form 8am to 8pm that it is ok to use leaf blowers.  My question..who is using leaf blowers when the sun isnt up?!?!?!  Its kinda sad that people have to be legislated some common sense.

Well im off to watch my roommates try and be assassins or whatnot…im not sure what game they are playing right now, but it should be funny seeing Josh play it, cause he has a problem with guns…

Lets support the War criminals!, When will politicians learn, and a night full of potential gut busting misery January 25, 2009

Ok…now Ive heard it all coming from the Middle East….Israel has stated that they will “back” any soldier that fouhgt in the 3week campaign against gaza that is acused of war crimes against the civilian population.  Gee, that going to win the hearts and minds of the international community, who you would like the support of in the future towards your campaign against Hamas!  Im a little concerned about this announcement. Its one thing to support your soldiers during a time of war, and most militaries have set guidelines in place that lays out “clearly” what is acceptable and unacceptable in a time of war…hello Geneva Convention?!?….so to pre-emptively state that you will support potential war criminals flags to the rest of the world that some not so cool things may/maynot have occured during that 3 week period of chaos.  Wow….and Israel is the main ally of the US?  Um…Im not saying we should ditch them, but I do think we need to seperate ourselves from them in some ways in order to preserve our own interests.  Here we are trying to give human rights to Gitmo detainees and Israel is defending potential human rights violators…time for us to move on…sorry Israel Lobby.

What is up with todays politicians?!  First Blagojevich decides to announce to the press that his ongoing corruption investigation, and the resulting pending impeachment proceeedings, are all a vast conspiracy against him…that hes the victim of a conspiracy to raise taxes. Seriously?!  Wow…and I thought Bush was creative on the excuses he made for his decisions, but he aint got nuttin’ on Blagojevich! And now theres some Mayor from Portland who has decided he won’t resign for lying about a sexual relationship with a teen (graned the boy was 18)!  Wow…please don’t tell me he’s taking a page from Illinois cause Im not thinking thats going to work out so well…one may be corrupt, but being a viewed through the lens of sexual scrutiny is no fun…just ask all the other politicians who have been busted for one sexual relationship or another!

And can I suggest that no one move to Pennsylvania anytime soon…it seems like there is a serial arsonist on the loose…just an FYI.

Well im off to watch some more Man v. Food with the roomies…One thing we cann all agree on…one day we want to take a road trip across the US and visit all the food sites from the cable shows!  Food vacation…fun! (Plus Josh baked a cake…well kinda…he didnt have all the ingredients needed, and got creative…so if poison control is called later, just know its not my fault!)

Why you should never throw rocks at glass houses. October 26, 2008

Well the rest of last night was interesting…lets just say it involved a roommate(Chris) passing out in the bathroom, and then while coherent, unable to figure out how to unlock the door, and then his girlfriend freaking out and trying to check on him by throwing rocks at the bathroom window…needless to say this involved breaking glass at 2am. Then when I finally fell asleep, she kept pounding on the bathroom door all night.  I woke up this morning to a different kind of pounding with Charlie and Kim moving out, and discovered that our primary bathroom no longer has a door handle.  Apparently it was disassembled/torn apart …not sure if Chris did it himself, or it was an attempt by others to get into the bathroom to get him.  Either way, the door does not shut completely, let alone lock!  Oh what fun!  Plus Im still sick…

Me being sick didn’t keep me away from things though…upon the sound wisdom of Russ…I went out drinking with the guys…and girls. (Russ’s advice was that it is a scientific fact that alcohol kills germs). Met up with everyone in Waikiki at some Mexican restaurant/bar, and then went to some MBA HPU shindig at the Lotus Room.  It was a really upscale place, that made Erik happy because on the second floor they were playing techno.  I miss my dive bars, and casual laid back places.  It was nice to see the place, but not my cup of tea!  And i should know tea by now! Met a girl named Melanie, who’s friends with Kyle…seems cool, and is alot like me…travel/save the world/meet new people/live in some random place type person. Ill be seeing her again at the Halloween drinking night.

Things that weirded me out or surprised me today: 1)Kyle dressed up…and not having a baseball hat on(see the pic above). 2)receiving Skyline chili in the mail  3) the bathroom door.

Two Google searches of the day that led to my blog….”sinking heels”.  Ok at least this one makes sense!  Welcome back wedding day flashbacks! and “Hitler Palin”…um should I be scared?

Playing chicken, Ohio denial, and testosterone filled nights October 24, 2008

Well im not sure how to start tonight’s blog, but to say that sometimes having roommates suck! Especially when they are mostly younger, and guys…especially military guys.  Ok Im not bashing the military here…but I definitely see a difference between the enlisted and the officer corps as far as behavior goes!  I spent the last hour trying to avoid masculine posturing over some stupid comment made by…none other than Eric (lil bro).  I swear, Im shocked this boy hasn’t either been punched yet, either because of some stupid comment, or in most cases…his girl drama.  He is entertaining though and fun to talk to. Ahhhh…..maybe i should think about Erik and Kyles suggestion to move to Waikiki or even Downtown.

Im not sure what to make of this odd news story…an Ohio woman gives birth to triplet granddaughters…Ok, it can be taken as a good thing that a family member was willing to help out another family member, or EWWWWWWW. Not sure I should be flying my Ohio loyalty flag, or hiding the fact that Im from Ohio.  I would say its a southern Ohio thing and leave it as that, but this occurred in Cleveland!

Rule number 1 for guys who aren’t getting any… if a girl rejects you, don’t pee on her dog…it may land you in jail!  It did for some numnut in Wisconsin.

If a dog is barking too much, dont kidnap the dog…it could also present an opportunity to spend some quality time with your local police.  Im wondering if this California lady has been watching too much tv…kinda reminds me of a scene from Dexter.

Police suggestion…dont play chicken with a police car…not a good idea!  I know Oklahoma’s boring and all, what with all those farms, but im betting jail is even less fun!

Well China has officially entered the realm of the West.  They broke up a male prostitution ring that was servicing other men.  Guess isolationism wasnt such a bad thing…if it occured then, they could just deny it…now mass media shines a bright light on all things in the dark!

Odd google search of the day that led to my blog…”Good looking executive women in tight p…”.  I can only assume they mean pants, and im a little disturbed that this has led to my blog…im not sure any words in that combination have been uttered on this blog…but apparently after oh, lets guesstimate 50 pages on google, my blog appears! Odd.

Ok so yes Im still sick, and Im getting Erik sick..sorry…drink Tea!

Disillusionment, t.v. feuds, warm tea, and the waffle house bandit October 21, 2008

So, today didnt start out as strange as yesterday…Eric has settled down and is no longer loopy due to chemicals…although hes naturally a little loopy, and that hasnt changed!  I finished my paper that was due today, this morning, and hopefully the prof likes it, because I certainly wasnt awake.  Things I discovered, or have been thinking about as a result of the readings for the paper…mainly that I was being used as a propaganda tool by the US government while in the Peace Corps to spread cultural influence to countries they may or may not have a vested interest in…Dang…and I thought I was saving the world one person at a    time (j/k). Oh well, my bubble has been popped, and even the best programs have evil intentions behind them.  Can you say disillusioned and negative much?!  Ok, Im done with my government propaganda rant for now.

Im getting sick and cant stop coughing…it sucks!   It cant be fun listening to me cough in class either!  Luckily I have a doctor, and his name is Dr. Erik (friend not roomie).  His recommendations, hot tea with lemon and clear liquids and well im not sure what else, but he was giving my orders today on how to not be sick. (PS he isnt an MD, but as he ascertains, a JD to be) I am taking his advice on the warm tea though, it sounded good anyways so I picked some up on the way home.

Ahh  Home, how fun art thee….not very!  There is currently a battle going on between Eric and Molly over stupid stuff, and right now there is a TV battle going on, ie: who can have it the loudest.  I told Eric(roomie) to cut it out…he laughed. As Ive said before…a lil brother.  Its calming down a little now, but if it doesn’t stop Im going to become a not so pleasant person to be around!  And some of you have witnessed angry Kristina first hand, and its not pleasant…laid back, nice Kristina is what is preferable!

Weird news for the day…Waffle House bandit.  Apparently a Florida women ordered a meal and then refused to pay…for a $7.45 meal.  Opting instead to serve jail time, up to 60 days or a $500 fine, as well as a second degree misdemeanor.  Thats one expensive crappy meal!

Chemical burns, drama, and hysterical conversations October 20, 2008

Tags: , , , ,

Well today began interesting and ended interesting…I have been home for at least 3 hours now, and haven’t done anything but talk to Eric…who has been cracking me up!  He’s been on duty for the past 3 days and got home late last night…and has spent the entire day looking like hes stoned! (Hes not!)  Im attributing it to the lack of sleep and all the chemicals hes been sniffing at work…plus he got a chemical burn on his butt after he fell in the chemicals…the boy is a mess!  And all this isnt including his normal girl drama!  Dear god, he seriously is like a little brother sometimes…such a dork!

Random conversations I have had today with people…1)talk about black nipple hair (dont ask!)  2)porn (thats the conversation I woke up to)  3)musical paper   4)chemical burns (gee I wonder who)  and 5) psychiatric counseling.  My life is interesting some days!

Random life update for everyone…If all goes as planned I will be in Tunisia, Egypt or Jordan over the summer learning Arabic through a State Dept scholarship program…and then in the Spring of 2010, I will be studying in Slovenia at the University of Ljubljana.  I miss traveling!  So im taking it all on!  If I am able to do this, then I should be able to graduate “on time”…I may have to take a class oveer the summer 2010 to finish my GC but MA would be done…Keep you posted!  Well Im off to write a paper thats due …well…today. Dang!

Crazy google search of the day that led to my blog…”Hookers”…Gee I wonder how many google pages they had to go through until they hit my blog…Im betting alot!
